Freshly hatched tadpoles crawl onto the adults back and are carried to a water source. The female will return daily and deposit unfertilised eggs as food until the tadpoles metamorphose into froglets.

They are native to Central and South America, living on the rainforest floor, and can regularly be seen hopping about searching for food. These frogs are active during the day, with a diet consisting of mostly flies, and other small insects.
